Results and Successes
Midlands Education and Business Alliance celebrates a successful year of connecting students, parents, educators and employers to education and career opportunities in the Midlands. Our success comes as a result of the tireless efforts of our dedicated board, volunteers and staff. Specific highlights of the 2004-2006 year include the following.
- 102 educators earned credit in MEBA graduate courses.
- 478 educators and business partners participated in the Educator Field Study series.
- 455 educators and business partners participated in professional development conferences, Business Matters and Career Focus.
- 374 high school and college students participated in Building Your Career Piece by Piece (Business 101).
- 1,706 high school and college students participated in The Cost of Your Living seminar.
- Over 590 students participated in Healthcare Career Day.
- 16,088 parents or other significant adults took part in Your Child Is Job #1.
- Over 250 business partners participated in local career fairs.
- Over 18 classrooms received USA Today.
- Over 214 classrooms received The State through MEBA sponsorship of the Newspapers in Education program.
- Over $63,300 of educational materials distributed to schools and colleges.
- Over $18,700 of materials distributed to businesses.
Partnerships
- Hosted dropout forum and developed a statewide taskforce to address the dropout challenge.
- Hosted educational forums including Business Matters and Career Focus for administrators, teachers and counselors.
- Partnered with Midlands Technical College and the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce to promote WorkKeys in the Midlands.
- Board members and staff attended Southeast Regional WorkKeys conference.
- Executive Director presented at International Career Guidance conference.
- Added three new alliances, Architecture & Construction, Hospitality & Tourism, and Transportation, Distribution & Logistics, bringing our total number of alliances to nine.
- Delivered Your Child Is Job #1 seminars at Colonial Supplemental Insurance, Fairfield Hospital (TV), KOBAN, Lexington Medical Center, Palmetto Health, Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals, Spirax Sarco, and The State.
- Secured funding to ensure August 2006 opening of multidistrict Midlands Middle College.
