Alliances

Midlands Education and Business Alliance currently works through twelve business alliances to connect education with business in specific clusters. The goal is to have sixteen alliances in the Midlands - one for each career cluster of study. Business partners in the alliances work closely with the schools and colleges to increase awareness of the career opportunities in the Midlands' economy and to direct students to the education they need to prepare for these jobs. The twelve alliances are:

  • Arts, A/V Technology and Communications
  • Business, Management and Administration
  • Education and Training
  • Finance
  • Health Sciences
  • Hospitality and Tourism
  • Information Technology
  • Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security
  • Manufacturing
  • Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics
  • Transporation, Distribution and Logistics

Architecture and Construction

The Architecture and Construction Alliance consists of professionals from the architecture and construction industries. The goal of this alliance is to introduce the various career paths in the architecture and construction career cluster: design and pre-construction, construction and maintenance operations. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Design/Pre-Construction; Construction and Maintenance/Operations.

Arts, A/V Technology and Communications

The Arts, A/V Technology and Communications Alliance provides expertise in identifying career options and work-based experiences for those students who show an interest in the humanities including English, history, languages, and education and training. In addition, the alliance focuses on careers that create, exhibit, perform and publish multimedia content such as audio and video technologies, printing technologies, visual arts, performing arts, journalism and broadcasting, and telecommunications technologies. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Audio and Video Technology and Film; Printing Technology; Visual Arts; Performing Arts; Journalism and Broadcasting and Telecommunications. Students who major in the Humanities also fall under this Cluster of Study.

Business, Management and Administration

The Business, Management and Administration Alliance provides an opportunity for members to develop and implement activities to help students with an interest in business and information technology. The alliance focus includes management, and administration, marketing, business financial management and accounting, business analysis, and human resources. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Management; Business Financial Management and Accounting; Human Resources, Business Analysis; Marketing and Administrative and Information Support.

Education and Training

The Education and Training Alliance meets every other month. The goal of the alliance is to "Promote careers in the education and training field". Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Administration and Administrative Support; Professional Support Services and Teaching/Training.

Finance

The Finance Alliance provides an opportunity for members to develop and implement activities to help students with an interest in careers in financial and investment planning, business financial management, banking and related services and insurance. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Financial and Investment Planning; Business Financial Management; Banking and Related Services; and Insurance Services.

Health Sciences

The Health Sciences Alliance provides an opportunity for members to develop and implement activities to help students with an interest in careers in the health sciences and human services. The focus includes careers in nursing, allied health, therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, biotechnology research and development, support services, sociology and psychology. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Therapeutic Services; Diagnostic Services; Health Informatics; Support Services and Biotechnology Research and Development.

Hospitality and Tourism

The Hospitality and Tourism Alliance provides an opportunity for professionals in the industry to develop and implement activities to help students with an interest in hospitality management and operations, culinary arts, travel and tourism and sports entertainment and recreation. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Restaurants and Food/Beverage Services; Lodging; Travel and Tourism and Recreation, Amusements and Attractions.

Information and Technology

The Information and Technology Alliance provides an opportunity for members to develop and implement activities to help students with an interest in business and information technology. The alliance focus includes information support and services, programming and software development, interactive media and network systems. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Networking Systems; Information Support and Services; Interactive Media and Programming and Software Development.

Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security

The Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security Alliance is composed of members of the public service community such as protective agencies, government workers, the legal community and the social services. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Correction Services; Emergency and Fire Management Services; Security and Protective Services; Law Enforcement Services and Legal Services.

Manufacturing

The Manufacturing Alliance provides an opportunity for members to develop and implement activitie to help students with an interest in careers in manufacturing and industrial maintenance including machine tool technology. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Production; Manufacturing Production Process Development; Maintenance, Installation and Repair; Quality Assurance; Logistics and Inventory Control; and Health, Safety and Environmental Assurance.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Alliance provides an opportunity for members to develop and implement activities to help students with an interest in automotive technologies, heavy equipment operations, general engineering, science technology, engineering and mathematics, and agricultural sciences. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Engineering and Technology; Science; and Math.

Transportation, Distribution and Logistics

The Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Alliance provides an opportunity for members to develop and implement activities to help students with an interest in careers tranportation operations, transportation system infrastructure, sales and service, warehousing and distribution center operations, and logistics planning and management services. Possible majors offered in the schools are as follows: Transportation Operations; Logistics Planning and Management Services; Warehousing and Distribution Center Operations; Facility and Mobile Equipment; Maintenance; Transportation Systems/Infrastructure Planning, Management and Regulation; Health, Safety and Environmental Management and Sales and Service.
