Dec 09, 2011
Grant Award to Support Dropout Prevention Work
Midlands Education and Business Alliance (MEBA) is one of several non-profit organizations across the Midlands and Pee Dee regions to receive funding from BI-LO Charities. The grant award was presented on December 8, 2011, as part of BI-LO Charities' "10 Days of Giving" event which was held at the Hartsville Library. In all, 16 non-profits received donations from the 2011 BI-LO Charity Classic golf tournament this past June. The funds were raised through sponsorships by local businesses, BI-LO's generous vendor community and customers.
MEBA received funding for dropout prevention and workforce development efforts in the Midlands. "We are grateful to BI-LO Charities for their support of MEBA's work to reduce the dropout rate in the Midlands community," said Lisa Call, MEBA's Chief Operating Officer. "Education is critical to a successful future, and we applaud BI-LO Charities' commitment to providing educational opportunities to those at-risk and for their investment in our community."
Other Midlands and Pee Dee non-profits receiving grants included Batesburg-Leesville Primary School; Calvary Baptist Church Food Pantry; CHESCO Services; Chester County Literacy Council; Chesterfield County First Steps to School Readiness; HOPE in Lancaster, Inc.; Horizons Christian Academy; Lancaster Children's Home, Inc.; Lancaster County Outreach Project; Miss South Carolina Scholarship Fund; Oro United Methodist Church Summer Camp; Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault; South Pointe Christian School; The Lord's Care; and Wesley United Methodist Church.
