The day began with a welcome by Lisa Call, MEBA’s Chief Operating Officer, followed by an overview and tour of Midlands Technical College’s Machine Tool Technology Program led by the program’s director, Dr. Alan Grier. Participating educators then listened to a panel discussion featuring Joanne Kightlinger, Plant Manager for Tyson Foods; Ron Vanderstelt, President of American Technical; and Harold Cecil, Maintenance Director for Michelin. Panelists discussed available careers and agreed the future looks bright for the manufacturing industry.
The educators then travelled to a SCE&G/SCANA facility where they were treated to lunch and where Scott MacFarland, SCANA Workforce Planning Manager, and Randy Fabry, SCE&G Fossil/Hydro Training Manager, spoke with the group about available careers, required skills and education and facility operations. The day ended with a tour of Pontiac Foods (a Kroger Company) led by Meaghan Jobst, Human Resources Director.
