MEBA Hosts Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Educator Field Study

Midlands Education and Business Alliance held a Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Educator Field Study on January 19, 2011, for Midlands educators. Twenty-four educators attended the event, which included tours of UPS’s West Columbia facility, Columbia Metropolitan Airport, and Southeastern Freight Lines, Inc.
Brad Lindsay of UPS spoke to attendees about the company’s hiring process, careers, necessary skills and education requirements. At Columbia Metropolitan Airport, Tamie Head, Human Resource Representative, and Chappelle Broom, Human Resource Manager, delivered a presentation titled, “They Called Me for an Interview, Now What Do I Do?” providing tips for a successful interview and what to do once you get the job.
Dan Mann, Columbia Metropolitan Airport’s Executive Director, also met with the group, sharing his experiences working in airport operations and what he looked for in employees. The event concluded with a tour of Southeastern Freight Lines, Inc., where John Pryor, Vice President of Human Resources and Safety, discussed how character, competence and commitment are important traits the company looks for when hiring employees.
