Oct 03, 2011
MEBA Awarded Grants from Lipscomb Family Foundation and John S. and James L. Knight Advised Fund of the Central Carolina Community Foundation for Dropout Prevention Work
MEBA would like to thank the Lipscomb Family Foundation and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Advised Fund of the Central Carolina Community Foundation for its grant in support of our work to reduce the dropout rate in the Midlands. The grant allowed MEBA to provide training to more than 50 Midlands educators on effective practices to reduce the high school dropout rate. The training, High School 101, took place on September 28, 2011, and was led by Chad Foster, renowned speaker and best-selling author of Teenagers Preparing for the Real World and Financial Literacy for Teens. High School 101 is an innovative, project-based curriculum designed to prepare students to succeed not only in the classroom but also in the real world.
The grants provide support for additional MEBA efforts to reduce the dropout rate including follow-up training, curriculum materials at three pilot schools, educator and student field studies, Your Child Is Job #1 sessions and Parent Resource Guides.
