Students participate in a hands-on learning activity at Tech Night.

Nearly 50 Midlands high school students got a closer look at Information Technology (IT) as a career through an interactive, challenging and fun evening of activities. Held on September 27 at Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company, Unum’s Tech Night helped generate awareness and interest in the field of IT to help meet current and future workforce demands. MEBA and IT-oLogy helped organize and facilitate the event.

According to Unum, employment for computer engineers is expected to increase by 32% between 2008-2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. In addition, this occupation will see a large number of new jobs, with more than 295,000 created between 2008-2018.
