Connect With Schools

Parents need to be involved with all aspects of their child's education, kindergarten through graduation. Students and educators appreciate parental involvement. Parental involvement sends a clear message to students that their parents are concerned and care about them. Research demonstrates that students do better when their parents are involved in their education. Educators receive the message that this parent has great interest in the education of their child.

There are many ways to connect with schools. Call the teacher and introduce yourself. Volunteer to organize fundraising activities such as bake sales and magazine drives, help with sports activities, be a homeroom mother or a chaperone, chair the school carnival, serve on the School Improvement Council, attend school board meetings, be a tutor, attend school events, or organize a career day. The possibilities are endless and rewards are tremendous.

If your child is being challenged by a problem at school, communication with the school is vital. You should start by scheduling an appointment with your child's teacher. If successful resolution is not reached, you should then meet with your child's guidance counselor. If the problem still is not resolved, you should schedule time with the principal. Administrators and faculty want your child to be successful in school and will work with you to achieve that success.
